Making Bags

Making Bags

Sewing is a great way to explore and express your creativity. I am a professional seamstress having worked as a theatrical costume maker at Cosprop in London, have run my own Soft Furnishings business and worked as a schoolteacher for 20 years. I hold City and Guilds Fashion parts I & II (millinery, pattern cutting, dressmaking) and have been making my own clothes and items for the home for many years – cushion covers, loose covers, curtains, children’s clothes, decorative and functional items. Come along and improve your sewing skills in a relaxed and supportive environment –

  • learn to sew from scratch beginning with the basics
  • develop your existing skills in dressmaking
  • make practical, useful items for your home and family
  • learn to use your sewing machine confidently
  • read and adapt a paper pattern
  • make your own clothes
  • carry out useful alterations to your existing clothes

Equipment I have a well-equipped workroom and work space. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you prefer but there are plenty of machines here.

Cost  A one day workshop is £25 where the maximum number of students will be five, but normally three or four. One to one sessions can be arranged and are £12.50 an hour.

Beginners will be able to learn some basic techniques and quickly move on to making a simple cushion cover, apron or bag.

Intermediate sewers might prefer specific help with their own particular projects – interpreting and reading a paper pattern, cutting, fitting, hand-finishing.

Groups are small and relaxed so whatever your skill level you will be able to make good progress.

When …. You book a session at a time which suits you (morning, afternoon or evening) and come along for tuition in beginner’s sewing or for assistance with your particular project as outlined above. A single session is £10 and runs for up to two and a half hours from 10 am, 2 pm or 6 pm.

I am based in Martham near the High School.
